Original sliding sash windows

Original sliding sash windows consist of two glazed sashes, which slide vertically in a timber frame, supported by cords that are balanced with lead weight. In box sash windows with spiral balances the sash can slide and tilt.

Sash windows usually have thin glazing bars, decorated with oval or lambs-tongue mouldings, and shutters were often positioned either side with similar detailing to provide security or warmth.

Our wooden sliding sash windows are suitable for replacements in historic listed buildings or in conservation areas. Modern sash windows are also available for new contemporary buildings.

Our developed construction preserves the traditions of sash windows as well as provides better tightness and heat conservation. It is energy and money saving. The effect is reached due to up-to-date sealing materials. If requested the windows can be produced with "horns" or without it. If requested the windows can be produced with wooden bars on the windows or without it. Air vents can be installed to provide efficient air circulation without opening the window.

Opening Options

Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windowsTimber Sash Windows - Standard Mock

The standard mock window is a top opener over fixed pane, it is basically a traditional stormproof casement window but with sash stiles left long in order to imitate
the horn below the bottom rail of the top sash.

The sash is hung on solid brass hinges and operates on a traditional casement stay. Locking facility is by way of a stay lock.

The Superior mock window is a top opener over fixed pane, but with similar traditional sections, as would be supplied with a Vertical Straight Slider.

The bottom section has a dummy sash (fixed), the top opens outwards on stainless steel friction stays and is secured by a brass locking casement fastener.

Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windowsTimber Sash Windows - Straight Slider

The traditional vertical straight sliding window has been made for the last 300 years or more, in our window however, we have two modifications.

One is that the sashes are operated by spiral balances as opposed to weights and pulleys, although these can be incorporated if required, (Albeit at an additional cost). The other is that we have applied up to date technology and design to the seals, on both the weatherproofing and sound insulation.

The vari-vent window is what we consider to be the jewel in our crown. This is a window which we have designed and developed ourselves, and to our knowledge we are the only company in the world that manufactures this window.

Primarily it looks like a vertical straight slider but for ease of use and to obtain maximum ventilation, the top sash opens outwards on stainless steel friction stays and the bottom slides vertically and tilts inwards, the bottom sash is fitted with two 100mm brass slide bolts, so that the bottom sash can be secured whilst the top sash is open. When completely closed, the sashes are secured by a brass locking casement fastener.

Wood

Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windows We believe that wood is one of the best building materials because of its ecological and building characteristics. It is one of the few renewable resources, essential for living.

For our window frames we use wood, brought from Northern regions’ sustainable forests. The growth of trees in countries with severe climate is slower, which makes timber more dense and durable.

Our window frames can be made from softwood or hardwood.
Softwood is more resistible to decay; it is of solid colour and texture. Pine tree timber is distinguished by its physical durability and larch timber by its bigger resistance to decay.

Deciduous hardwood is a wood of more interesting structure. Oak tree timber is more long-lived, harder; it has big mechanical resistance. Meranti is more long-lived, having larger physical resistance than pine tree. Sipo timber is resistible to decay, having fine texture and colour.

We mostly manufacture pine windows and oak windows, but according to the customer requirements we can manufacture windows from various softwood and hardwood.

Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windowsIn order to protect our wooden window frames from deformation and increase their lifetime, we use laminated triple-layer wood. The outer layers are radial or half radial cut and this method protects wooden window surfaces from wood cleavage. It is produced using selected timber that is glued together under high pressure so our products are strong and stable.

Frames can be made from:

-laminated triple-layer finger-joint pine (removed knocks, resins, small fractures); mostly used for surfaces to be painted. Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windows

- laminated triple-layer fixed (solid wood) pine, oak and meranti (special wood selected without knocks, resins, fractures).Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windows

Glass and glazing

Our double or triple glazing is usually performed using PILKINGTON glass. This glass has better sunlight permeability, heat preservation in the premises and better sound insulation. Hermetic double or three pane glass packages are used as a standard option, filled with argon gas. The indoor pane comes in selective glass, reflecting thermal rays into the premises and improving heat insulation features of glass package. Heat conduction coefficient of such glass package U value 1.1 - 1.4 W/m2K; sound insulation: 32-35dB.

According to the customer requirements we can offer the following glass packages:

• Heat insulation (selective).
• Sunshine control (reflective, toned).
• Sound insulation.
• Anti-burglar (laminated, hardened).
• Special: fire safe, ornamental.

Safety glass units:

Laminated safety glass is produced by putting a thin layer of flexible clear Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windowsplastic film polyvinylbutyral (PVB) between two or more pieces of glass. The plastic film holds the glass in place when the glass breaks, helping to lessen injuries from flying glass. The film also can stretch, yet the glass still sticks to it. It is also quite difficult to penetrate laminated safety glass, compared to normal window pane glass;

Tempered safety glass is a single piece of glass that gets tempered using a process that heats, then quickly cools the glass to harden it. The tempering process increases the strength of the glass from 5 to 10 times that of untempered glass. Toughen safety glass breaks differently than regular clear glass. When tempered safety glass is struck it does not break into sharp jagged pieces of shrapnel like glass as normal window panes or mirrors do. Instead, it breaks into little pebble-like pieces, without sharp edges.

Sliding sash windows hardware

Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windowsWe fit high quality two type of balances: spiral and weights usually from companies UK Balance "UK Balance" and Mighton "Mighton". In addition we can supply a range of linings, window boards and architraves in matching material.

Balances:

Type D Balances

These are light duty, economical general purpose balances for domestic or commercial applications.

They are manufactured in 3 weight groups suitable for sashes having glazed weights of up to 18.15Kg (40lbs) and service hatches up to 6.8Kg (15lbs). All 'D' type balances are adjustable within their weight range to suit actual glazed sash weights. A special adjustment tool is available. Where maximum assisted lift is necessary it is advisable to use 'F' type balances when sash weights exceed 17Kg (3.5lbs).

Type F,K and M Balances

These are heavy duty balances, purpose-made to suit actual sash weights.
They incorporate a mechanical feature which, using a screw driver, allows for fine adjustment to be made 'on site' thus achieving accurate equilibrium with the sash and subsequently minimum effort required to lift heavier installations. These balances are particularly recommended for retirement homes, hospitals or nursing homes.

Finishing and colours

Depending on customer requirements we are willing to leave the products we supply untreated, coated with a base coat or completely pre-finished. As standard we fully factory finish all wooden windows and doors. Traditionally we use a waterborne coating, which is spray applied to ensure a more durable and professional finish. For added protection the coatings are resistant to U.V. light.

Although we spray our waterbourne coatings they are available in brushing formulation which ensures an exact match can be obtained on site

Sash windows, timber windows, wooden windowsColour for non-transparent finishing may be selected from the RAL colour range. In case of transparent finishing, the oak, mahogany and other tints can be achieved.

A perfect and durable protection of wooden windows and doors
We use finishes supplied by well established companies, namely Teknos, Sikkens and Sadolin, which are ones of the leading paint manufacturers supplying industrial paints for wooden surfaces.

Ecology and durability are compatible
SIKKENS water-dilatable covering is indeed ecological and prolongs durability of wooden windows.

The spectrum of SIKKENS colours is very wide therefore you will be able to choose both transparent and non-transparent. Well-maintained windows look better and are more resistant to various factors. To maintain the windows is that much easy as to clean them.

Ecology as the quality factor
We will not be mistaken to state that twindows and doors emphasize the exterior design of the building and provide it certain style and character.

Therefore, we recommend using such building material, which is resistant to aggressive effect of the environment, i. e. TIMBER.

Wooden windows and doors is a good investment to the future
Today one can notice the tendency to use natural material - timber. Its advantages are evident through the whole process - from assembly to technical maintenance:

Water-dilatable products distinguish by the following exclusive high-quality properties:

• Quick drying;
• Resistance to various factors for a long time;
• Tolerance of the environment ;
• Ensure better labour conditions.
